Support and cheer for Stockholm at the Vis Moot
The Stockholm Vis team is preparing for the Vis Moot in Vienna and in Hong Kong. ICAL alumni are welcome to support the Stockholm team at the oral rounds.
Every year students from the ICAL program participate in The Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot ("Vis"), the world's leading student competition on international commercial arbitration law.
At the Vis, students from around the world, representing over 300 different teams and over 60 different nationalities, put their legal and advocacy skills to the test during a 6-month period. In the first phase of the Vis, teams must submit their written memoranda (Statement of Claim and Statement of Defence) arguing their cases on the basis of a fictive dispute involving an international transaction governed by the CISG and subject to arbitral proceedings. The second phase of the Vis consists of oral rounds, in which two teams plead their arguments against each other in front of a 3-arbitrator panel. One team represents the claimant and the other team represents the respondent. Students are scored individually on the basis of their legal arguments, advocacy skills and overall professionalism. The teams with higher individual scores advance to the next round. One version of the Vis takes place in Vienna and the other version in Hong Kong ("Vis East").
The ICAL program has a long tradition of high performing teams, which have been awarded prizes in all categories of the competition, winning first and second places for their written memoranda, honorable mentions for written memoranda as well as for individual pleaders.
