2017-04-06

ICAL Program’s Vis team (“Stockholm team”) took the victory at the last version of the Stockholm Pre-Moot for the Willem C. Vis Moot Court Competition (“Vis Moot”).

The Stockholm Pre-Moot took place last weekend, kicking off with a half-day conference at the SCC on March 31st, and with oral-rounds held at Mannheimer Swartling throughout the weekend of 1 and 2 April 2017.

This year the Stockholm Pre-Moot gathered 11 very diverse guest teams, representing Aarhus Universitet (Denmark), University of Auckland (New Zealand), Fudan University (China), Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), University of Tartu (Estonia), University of Helsinki (Finland), The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (UK), Utrecht University (Netherlands), Allameh Tabataba'i University (Iran), Universidad de Montevido (Uruguay), and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

The Stockholm team is composed of ICAL students Daniel Löfgren (Sweden), Samuel Carey (New Zealand), Raghda Al-Ajely (Sweden), Susanna Ladecky (Czech Republic), Ekaterina Hnitidou (Greece), Mathias Hanson (Belgium), Wanqiu Wang (China) and student coach Philip Reinhart (USA).

As previous years, the Stockholm team split its efforts into two teams, one participating in the Vis East in Hong Kong and another one participating in the Vis Moot in Vienna. While the Stockholm Pre-Moot took place, team members Mathias Hanson, Ekaterina Hnitidou and Wanqiu Wang represented the ICAL program at the Vis East. They made an excellent job, making the ICAL family proud and gaining praise for their strong pleadings. The Stockholm team going to Vienna won the Stockholm Pre-moot, after prevailing in a semi-final against the Brazilian team from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and then winning the final against Aarhus Universitet.

We wish the Stockholm team all the success at the Vis Moot in Vienna and we congratulate all team members (and coach!) for all their efforts throughout the competition!
